N82 Available in UK, SIM Free or Contract

n82sports

It looks like, for the time being anyway, that o2 has the exclusivity of the Nokia N82 on contract. However, the o2 website has no information about it that I can find (their search function is down at the time of writing) but Rafe over at www.allaboutsymbian.com have it in their shop.

All is not lost though if you prefer SIM free, then you can get it from Nokia themselves on a special offer N82 Adventure Pack. With that you get the free Nokia Sports Tracker software, and also a free Saloman rucksack, for £399 plus shipping. There is a limited supply of these though.

For a great 5 part review of the Nokia N82, head over to symbian-guru.com in which Ricky gives it a definate thumbs up. If I had the spare cash right now, I know where it would be going...... not to o2 though!

N800 On It's Way

n800play

Well I have finally taken the plunge and ordered a Nokia N800 internet tablet. I know that it has been out for quite a while now, and I would prefer the N810, but to be honest, for £130 shipped it was too good an opportunity to miss. I also think at this price, it perhaps brings consumers into the mix, that would have previously not considered one.

These things are currently selling on eBay for around £160, so if the N810 gets a price drop in early 2008, I shouldn't have too much trouble shifting it for around the same price I got it for, in order to upgrade.

Nokia N800 Cheaper Than Ever?

I'm currently on the lookout for a Nokia N800 internet tablet. I have been for the last couple of months, but thought I would leave it until the post-christmas sales, to see if I could grab myself a bargin.

Just before christmas, I was keeping an eye on what prices they were getting on eBay, and generally used ones were going for around £160.

Imagine my surprise this evening when I looked again at prices on the web and came across play.com selling the N800 for just £129 shipped! Thats a full £170 less than the RRP!

I'm really tempted to leave my purchase to see if the price goes down any further, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to control my urge to hit 'buy'.

I'll see how I feel in the morning.

N82 To Be Released in Black & White

Ever since the first leaked photo's of the N82 made their way into my RSS reader a couple of months back, I had reservations about the 'champagne' colour of it. It was neither silver nor gold, and I dont think it really knew what it wanted to be, and ended up as a horrible crossbreed of a colour.

However, all my concerns were laid to rest when news surfaced this morning of the soon to be released black and white versions. Both look great to me, but the practicalities of the white one looking great to start with, but quickly getting grubby put me off somewhat.

The candybar form factor of the N82 appeals to me greatly, and if I had the disposable cash, I would get one tomorrow. However, as the only main feature advantage over my current N95 is the Xenon flash, I cannot justify the apparent luxury of an upgrade at present prices.

If anyone has an N82 going spare, be sure to let me know.................

Energizer Energi to Go Review

Ok, so here is my first review for this blog, and the subject of this is going to be the Energizer Energi to Go charging device designed for Nokia phones.

As we all know, the Nokia N95 battery is not all that it is cracked up to be, and a couple of hours browsing the net, phone calls, and couple of emails later likelihood is, the battery is going to begging you to put it on charge. As I am not always sat next to a power socket, I decided to give the Energi to Go a try and see how it does.

I bought mine from 7dayshop.com for only £9.99 plus shipping, whilst maybe not being the cheapest on the web, I was buying some other bits from there, so it made sense to buy it as well.

After battling my way through the blister style packaging the Energi comes with 2 Lithium batteries, and adaptor cables for both the older and newer Nokia phones. Energizer do not state how many charges you should expect from the Lithium batteries supplied, I have so far done 2 full charges on my N95 and they are still going strong.

The Energi itself feels solid to hold, and would seem that it can take a few knocks and drops without too much worry. It has 2 blue LED style lights on either side, which flash when you are charging a device. At the other end, a cap can be removed by squeezing on two buttons, and this is where you load up the batteries. Although Energizer state for best performance use Lithium batteries, I have put in my rechargeable Ni-Mh batteries, and these work just fine. I have 1300mAh which are enough for one charge of the N95, and 2500mAh which can just about manage 2 charging cycles of the N95 battery.

The charging times are pretty much the same as a normal wall charger, although it is quite difficult to be exact without sitting in front of your phone waiting for it to show battery full.

Overall, this is a very nice piece of kit, and does exactly what it says on the tin. If I were to be picky, I would ask Energizer to include 2 longer cables as well, so that the Energi could stay in your pocket, whilst using your phone, and also that there be a small LCD screen on the device to show you how much charge is left in the batteries. Maybe these are some things to ask for in V2 though.

Any questions, please send me an email steverowlands@gmail.com or leave me a comment on here.

Handy Calendar - Free App Friday

Ok, so for one day only (i.e TODAY) those nice people at Handango.com are offering up Handy Calendar as part of their Free App Friday promotion ---> http://www.handango.com/FreeAppFriday.jsp

You have to register on their website in order to download it, and you will then be emailed the download link and product code. At first I thought it might make me enter my credit card details, but thankfully it doesn't.

Once installed on your S60 device, it may seem like it is just the trial version you have got, but all you need to do is enter the product code that was emailed to you by Handango, and there you have it. A fully licensed, FREE app.

I have never used Handy Calendar before, so I will be trying it out over the next week or so to find out how it performs. I'll be posting my thoughts on this soon, so please check back for a review.

From what I have read on the web already it seems to be a pretty good application, so I look forward to seeing how it goes.

Lastly, just a quick screenshot of Handy Calendar to whet your appetite.
